Silver Care Guide

Keep Your Moments Shining Forever

Sterling silver is an organic, breathing precious metal. With minimal, mindful care, your DEYAMI creations will stay as radiant as the day you first wore them.

The Golden Rule of Fine Silver

"Last On, First Off."

Put your silver jewelry on after applying perfume, lotion, hairspray, and cosmetics. Take it off first before bedtime, swimming in chlorinated pools, or heavy workouts.

01. Why Does Silver Tarnish?

Silver tarnishing is not a sign of defect or poor quality — in fact, tarnishing proves the silver is real! Unlike stainless steel or plastic, genuine silver naturally reacts with airborne sulfur compounds (forming silver sulfide, a microscopically thin brownish-grey patina).

The secret to preventing tarnish is regular wear. The natural oils in your skin create a gentle protective barrier against environmental sulfur. In short: the more often you wear your DEYAMI silver, the brighter it stays!

02. Gentle At-Home Cleaning Ritual

Never use harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive toothpastes (which contain microscopic silica particles that can scratch rhodium plating). Follow this simple 5-minute cleaning method:

  1. Warm Water & Mild Soap: Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and a few drops of phosphate-free dish soap or baby shampoo.
  2. Soak: Immerse your silver jewelry for 5 to 10 minutes to loosen skin oils and dust.
  3. Gentle Brush: For intricate filigree or pavé settings, gently brush using a soft-bristled baby toothbrush.
  4. Rinse: Rinse thoroughly under clean running water (ensure your sink drain is plugged!).
  5. Dry & Buff: Pat dry completely with a lint-free microfiber cloth. Never leave damp silver to air dry.

03. Storage & Anti-Tarnish Sealing

Air and humidity are silver’s primary enemies during storage. When you are not wearing your pieces:

  • Store each piece separately in an airtight ziplock pouch or velvet pocket to prevent chains from tangling and stones from scratching adjacent metal.
  • Include a small silica gel packet inside your jewelry organizer to absorb ambient humidity.
  • Keep out of bathrooms and damp wardrobes. Store in a cool, dry, dark drawer.

04. What to Strictly Avoid

❌ Chlorinated Pools & Jacuzzis Chlorine reacts violently with silver, causing instant dark chemical oxidation.
❌ Hot Springs & Sulfur Water Natural mineral hot springs contain heavy sulfur vapors that instantly blacken silver.
❌ Direct Perfume Sprays Alcohol and aromatic oils in perfumes can cloud gemstones and wear down protective coatings.
❌ Paper Towels & Tissues Wood-pulp fibers in paper towels create micro-scratches on polished silver surfaces.
